Adopt A Dog Or Cat In Louisville, KY

We love to highlight some of the charities we support, and Shamrock Pet Foundation in Louisville is one of those amazing non-profits that we back. Shamrock Pet Foundation is an animal rescue group that helps with public education, adoption and spay/neuter programs in the Louisville area. Run by unpaid volunteers, the people dedicated to loving and caring for animals that don’t have a home is evident by their compassion and commitment.

Unlike most traditional animal rescue groups, Shamrock Pet Foundation does not have a “shelter” where people can go look at the animals that are up for adoption. Instead, the dogs and cats they are trying to save are typically fostered by loving volunteers. This way the animals are more socialized, and the foster “parent” can speak with the potential new owners about details of the animal’s personality, behavior, habits, needs, etc. Plus, this also means that the dogs and cats are in loving environments while they’re waiting for their forever homes!

The Shamrock Pet Foundation also supports various legislation protecting animals, including Kentucky Senate Bill 12 which would create a new section of KRS Chapter 411 to provide civil immunity for damaging a vehicle if a person enters a vehicle with the reasonable, good-faith belief that a dog or cat is in immediate danger of death if they are not removed.

This law is very important — especially for people who encounter a dog or cat in a parked car on a hot day and feel completely helpless. Parked cars are deathtraps for animals! On a 78-degree day, the temperature inside a parked car can reach 100 degrees in minutes. Many people are still in denial about this deadly fact and think it’s okay to bring their dog with them in the car on hot days. Some of these people think that it’s okay for them to leave their pets in a car for “only a minute or two.” But it only takes a few minutes for your dog to suffer brain damage – or die. It’s best to leave your pet at home on warm days. (If you’re traveling with your dog, keep these dog traveling tips in mind!)

Bottom line: If you’re looking for a four-legged friend to love, contact Shamrock Pet Foundation and adopt a dog or cat that needs a home.

And if you need a new vehicle to bring your loving pet home in, the Neil Huffman Automotive Group is here to help you find the right vehicle for you and your new pet!
