Uspiritus Helps Our Community’s Children

The Neil Huffman Automotive Group is proud to support Uspiritus, a local organization that helps our community’s youth. According to data collected by The Child Mind Institute Children’s Mental Health Report, mental health disorders are the most common childhood diseases. An estimated 17.1 million children have (or have had) a psychiatric disorder. Additionally, many children live in homes that are harmful to the child emotionally and/or physically.

Uspiritus has been helping Louisville, Kentucky, families since it was founded in 2012 when Bellewood Home for Children and Brooklawn Child & Family Services combined efforts and joined forces to help our community’s children. Uspiritus is committed to provide help to those children who need it most by offering programs that help children and families throughout Kentucky get through difficult times with the following programs:

  • Residential Treatment
  • Therapeutic Foster Care and Adoption
  • Community-Based Services
  • Outpatient Services

These programs offer children and families the therapy, treatment and support they need to meet the challenges they face.

Treatments That Help Kids Learn How To Better Manage Issues

For kids that suffer from aggression, impulse control, act out sexually or have other behavioral issues that cause stress on themselves or their families, residential treatment can help. The youth live in cottages on Louisville area campuses that are supervised by trained workers. Children learn basic and advanced social skills as they build their self-esteem, learn how to better communicate and become more aware of how to have healthy relationships.

For kids with more severe mental issues, the Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility Program offers 24/7 psychiatric treatment in a residential setting that is comfortable for the children.

Uspiritus also helps kids manage other mental disorders like mood, bipolar, ADHD, depression and other mental health problems.

Foster Care and Adoption: Giving Kids A Loving Home

What kids need most is a loving, happy home. Uspiritus helps find homes that offer children love, emotional and educational support through their Therapeutic Foster Care in Kentucky program. Unlike most foster care and adoption programs, Uspiritus’ program offers parents intensive training and 24/7 support. This is especially important for parents of kids who have special needs or other mental health issues.

Other Community Based Services

We can’t forget our young adults! Uspiritus’ Independent Living program helps homeless young adults who are in the State’s care on their 18th birthday or are currently committed to the State’s care system. Serving youth from age 18 to 21, this program offers a safe home and paid expenses if the young adult is either working or attending school (or both.) This great program helps countless young adults get off to a better start in our state and community.

The Family Preservation Program (FPP) is a short-term crisis intervention program that helps improve the parent and child relationship while keeping the family functioning during a crisis. This program helps at-risk families by intervening to keep the children safe, so they can remain in their homes.

If young people need help, the intensive In-Home services are available in home, in the community or in Uspiritus’ offices. This program helps keep children in their homes and concentrates on behaviors where they take place – whether that’s at home, in the community or at school. These outpatient mental health services are available to Medicaid-eligible children and adolescents that have ongoing behavioral and emotional issues.

Outpatient Services Help Kids Who Struggle

Uspiritus’ Outpatient Services care for kids 4-17 years of age who suffer from anxiety, depression, grief, ADHD, trauma, behavior issues, parenting issues, divorce, stress or other coping issues. Outpatient services are available in school, at home or in the office. You can even drop-in in the Louisville office location.

Neil Huffman Mazda Gives Back: Supporting Uspiritus

The Neil Huffman Automotive Group is big on supporting our community — and Uspiritus is one of the charities we love to support! We helped raise money for Uspiritus through the Mazda Drive for Good program. During the program when people test drove a Mazda at our dealership, we donated an hour of our time back to our community. Also, when people purchased a Mazda at our dealership, we donated to this local charity. In April 2018 Neil Huffman Mazda was excited to donate $1,500 to Uspiritus!

Our support of this amazing organization doesn’t stop there. Our employees love Uspiritus, too!

Christopher Stewart, Senior Sales & Leasing Expert at Neil Huffman Mazda, is a regular volunteer, “Uspiritus works with vulnerable youth in our area, and I am very lucky to work with their fundraising committee.”

Christopher loves that Neil Huffman Mazda supports his volunteer work, “I was excited when the Huffman organization supported me in my volunteering there.” He also explained how important the donation means to organizations like Uspiritus, “The Commonwealth provides funding for basic needs for the children in Uspiritus’ care, but that doesn’t include things like haircuts or a cake on a child’s birthday,” Christopher said. “Every monetary donation helps a charity like Uspiritus.”

Christopher and other employees at the Neil Huffman Automotive Group like that their company not only helps contribute monetarily to this amazing organization, but that volunteering at charities like Uspiritus is such a priority for the company.
